Ischemic Heart Disease
Ischemic heart disease (IHD) is the most prevalent cardiovascular disease and the leading cause of death worldwide. IHD is a pathological process, characterized by atherosclerotic plaque accumulation in the epicardial arteries, causing the narrowing of the blood vessels which supply the heart with oxygen and nutrients.  Due to the build-up of atherosclerotic plaque inside the blood vessel walls, the artery becomes stiff, frail, and susceptible to ruptures. Ruptures produce thrombus formations and, if the thrombus forms inside the coronary arteries, it can lead to a myocardial infarction also known as a heart attack, a potentially fatal event. If you’re interested in learning more about IHD, please view the videos below.
